coaching
The skills that make study calm, confident and consistent aren't complicated.
Notice where your attention's gone, and bring it back. Feel what you're feeling before you fight it. Talk to yourself the way you'd talk to a friend. None of it is hard to understand. Doing it on your own is a different matter entirely.
That's what coaching provides — the same thing a good personal trainer or music teacher provides. Someone who doesn't lift the weight for you or play the tune for you, but shows up every week with the experience and quiet confidence to say: I've seen this work, and I'm not going anywhere until you can see it too.
A teenager who doubts they can study independently doesn't need someone to do it for them. They need someone who can help them believe they can. And if coaching isn't the right fit for you right now — whether that's cost, timing, or you'd simply rather guide your teenager through it yourself — everything coaching is built on is freely available on our Free Stuff page.
That's true whether you're a parent moving from coaxing your teenager to coaching them yourself, a tutor looking to build independence in the students you teach, or a student who'd rather work through it solo. The method's the same either way.
Coaching just means you don't have to hold the belief on your own while you learn it.
The Independent Study Skills
30-week Curriculum
A complete journey towards becoming a calmer, more confident and consistent learner
Calm → Confidence → Consistency → Assessment → Consolidation
The full 30-week curriculum is designed as a progressive journey. But sometimes you don't need the whole journey at once. Our six-week programmes focus a particular aspect of independent learning and give students practical tools they can begin using immediately.
Week 1. The Open Fist Reset
Independent Study requires 5 key skills. This technique brings them all together in one easy tool:
-
Reset attention
-
Regulate emotions
-
Relax posture
-
Reframe mindset
-
Restart study
Weeks 2-6. Calm
2. Feelings aren't facts; learning to respond rather than react.
3. Own your Attention. The trick isn’t preventing distraction but noticing it.
4. Calm is a skill; using posture and breathing to change your state.
5. Get out of your head - learn to listen to your body.
6. Just this, just for now; make difficult things easier to start.
Weeks 7-11 Confidence
7. Where does confidence come from? Change how you talk to yourself.
8. It’s up to you. Taking charge of your own learning.
9. Learning is biologically wired to be hard; mindset can change how hard it feels.
10. Stop comparing yourself; to anyone else, or to an idealised version of you.
11. Learning to care where it matters most.
Weeks 12-16 Consistency
12. The bare minimum. What’s the smallest step forward?
13. Forget the result - focus on the process.
14. Motivation is a myth, or at the very least a rare beast.
15. Studying is your choice — taking ownership and control.
16. Forget motivation. Aim for momentum. Forget willpower. Build habits.
Weeks 17-30 Assessment
17. Organisation, materials, and notes. Making it easier to start and sustain.
18. A study timetable you will actually stick to.
19. Your phone wants your attention; time to take it back.
20. How do we actually learn and remember? Study less, study better.
21. Mocks, past papers, and exam technique.
Weeks 12-16 Consolidation and beyond
22. Learning, like life, is a team sport - giving and asking for help.
23. Don't make the right decision; make the decision right.
24. Healthy sleep, rest, and downtime.
25. Reframing nerves: from threat to challenge.
26. Thinking positively and realistically - trusting yourself.
27. You can only move one step at a time.
28. Name what's happening. Understanding emotions gives choices.
29. The power of enough.
30. Mood follows movement. Walk yourself happy.
